Renaissance Hotel Vienna

I decided to visit a Vienna for a short trip before Christmas. For 3 day city break I decided to book Renaissance Hotel. Hotel is recently refurbished 4 star business hotel. Hotel have a great location next to U-Bahn (subway) train station. You can reach downtown within 10 minutes with U-Bahn.

I arrived to hotel at 4 pm on Friday afternoon, hotel lobby was busy. There was few people in the line for check-in. Because I am Mariott’s Rewards Silver Elite I had priority check-in. Check-In was quick and I was shortly in my room. Only I did’t like that hotel wanted to take a authorization charge of 400,00€ from my credit card for 3 days stay. Stay was paid and authorization would cover only mini-bar, in-room dinning and restaurant. But I resolved the problem to take a charge of only 200,00€ which is still a lot but more reasonable.

I have booked Premium Room which was similar to Guest Room with addition of premium amenities such as Nespresso coffee machine. Room had modern ambiance and design. Design of the room was very artistic.

I liked the room, it was very spacious and modern but I think some things could be improved. I would improve working area in the room and change chair with more comfortable one. In the end this is a business oriented hotel and working space is important for business travelers. And I would also change the seating area which was a lounge chair with the sofa. Bathroom was also very small but was functional. Housekeeping cleaned room very well and they also brought me additional towels and bathroom amenities when I asked. Only complain that I had is that on 2nd day my room wasn’t cleaned until 5 pm.

Design of the hotel was very similar to the W Hotels but a bit less luxurious. I did’t know that Renaissance was trying to create one of the kind hotels around the world. This hotel and the design of the room where very unique.

Hotel is offering an casual restaurant offering international cuisine inspired by French, Austrian and Turkish flavors. I visit the restaurant on my first day. Because I was tired I ordered only a signature burger and draft beer.

Beer was brought together with some nuts.

Burger was delicious and I liked the presentation. Burger was very classic, it had beef with some cheese, tomato and lettuce. Potato wedges where also delicious, I liked that they where spiced with pepper.  I forgot the name of beer but it was an Austrian or German draft lager. Nothing special but good to have it with a burger.

Service was average, waitress where friendly but it took a long time to take order and get the food. Food was served much faster, I waited a little less than 10 minutes to get a burger. Ambiance of the restaurant was nothing special but it was synced with a hotel design.

Hotel is also offering daily Breakfast buffet with select A’l carte dishes. Breakfast selection is good. Breakfast offering was standard for Europe. I liked also their selected A’l carte dishes such as Eggs Benedict and Omelet. But unfortunately I wasn’t able to order any A’l carte dishes because there was no one at the A’l carte station. Instead I choose some scrambled eggs with mushrooms and bacon from the buffet selection. Food quality was good and also food was tasteful with exception of scrabbled eggs.

Breakfast Buffet

Fresh fruit

For start I had a plate of fresh fruit. I choose oranges, apples and grapes. Fruit was freshly cut and delicious.

I continued with scrambled eggs which I spiced with some pepper and mustard. I also had some bacon, mushrooms and potatoes together with the eggs. I was missing some chili or spicy sauce to add to eggs. Eggs had quite plain taste, but this is case with majority of scrabbled eggs.

Scrambled Eggs

I add the breakfast experience with some sweet pastries. I had a plain croissant and a danish with apple jam. Pastries where good and not to sweet.

Hotel breakfast was good. I had the breakfast included in my room rate otherwise breakfast cost 25.00€. I did’t like the system used that they charged you breakfast to the room and then at the check-out you need to ask them to remove it from the bill. It would be easier to have someone at the entrance checking eligible rooms instead.

On the last evening of my stay I also tried in-room dinning. In-room dinning had a similar menu to the restaurant and it is available until 10:00 pm.

I ordered again a burger with potatoes wedges because I wanted to eat something quick. Operator told me that food would arrive within 30 minutes. After 15 minutes food arrived to the room. I was missing a small table next to the seating area where food could be placed. Instead I cleared the working area and they placed the food there.

In-Room Dinning

Burger was delicious and it was very similar to the one from the restaurant. I liked the taste of the burger. Presentation was nice a bit more classic than in the restaurant. Potato wadges where also good, I liked again that they where spiced.

Hotel is also offering wellness area which unfortunately I did’t have time to visit. They also offered business center in the lobby which had few computers and printers. I just walked past and did’t took any photos of it.

Final Toughs

Hotel Renaissance Wien is a great business hotel with modern ambiance. I would stay there again but would considered other Vienna hotels as well. There was nothing wrong with my stay at the Renaissance but some things could be improved. Rooms could be improved and I would add an Executive / Club Lounge as this is primarily business hotel. Service was not bad but also nothing special. I would recommend you this hotel if you like to stay in trendy and luxuriously inspired places but do not demand luxury services. As an business hotel it was above expectations but design could be a little less design oriented and more functional.
